KITCHEN MANAGER
Canoe Cove Christian Camp
is seeking a dynamic, energetic and spiritually mature candidate
for the 2009 summer camp season, for the position of
Kitchen Manager
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
- Be an immersed believer in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and a member in good standing
of the Christian Church/Church of Christ Fellowship.
- Exude Christ-like character and conduct at all times.
- Be of good general health
- Agree to abide by the camp's rules and regulations and serve under the direction and
supervision of the Camp Manager.
- Be willing to attend all scheduled training times and planning meetings for camp staff.
- Be prepared to give an answer to those campers who will ask about his/her faith.
- Be able to relate well to children of all ages.
- Have leadership and organizational skills and be able to work and communicate well
with others.
- Provide a Certified Police Clearance Certificate.
- Be able to supervise others effectively.
- Attend and complete a Food Service Sanitation Program.
- Have a solid understanding of and maintain all food preparation and cleanliness guidelines as
established by the Department of Health and Social Services.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate will:
- Be responsible for food preparation, cooking and serving, providing a balance of nutrition
to all campers.
- Attend, and prepare meals for, orientation weekend.
- Supervise, assign, and rotate tasks to kitchen assistants (volunteers).
- Ensure that the kitchen, walk-in and storage area remain clean after food
preparation.
- Plan and direct preservation of foods for future use.
- Receive and store food supplies, checking incoming orders against invoices and maintaining
all invoices for Camp Manager.
- In conjunction with the Camp Manager, prepare the food order required for the following
week and immediate needs throughout the week.
- Ensure that special menus are prepared for those with specific nutritional needs.
- Work with program staff in planning special snacks, program out-tripping, etc.
- Enforce sanitary regulations: cleanliness of kitchen, storage and walk-in areas, cleaning
utensils and countertops, sweeping floor after each meal (mopping when required),
disinfect and mop floors each evening, clean and disinfect tables and seats after each
meal (may be delegated to campers through the Program Director).
- Ensure sanitary regulations regarding cleanliness of personnel are met - that is, clean
and neat clothing and personal appearance, wearing head gear and gloves and any other
standards as set out by the Dept. of Health and Social Services.
- Ensure weekly kitchen and dining room clean-up as per directive provided.
- Be responsible for sorting and disposing of garbage.
- Be responsible for phone message centre and distribution of messages.
- Be responsible for ensuring that kitchen laundry (e.g. towels, aprons, etc.) is kept clean.
- Participate in other facets of camp program as time and schedule permits.
- Report all illnesses or injuries to the Program Director or designated medical staff.
- Arrive at camp at least 2 hours before first meal.
- Co-ordinate weekly orientation and daily staff meetings for kitchen volunteers.
- Report items or facilities in need of repair/attention to Camp Managers.
Accountability: Kitchen Manager > Camp Manager > Camp Board of Directors
Compensation: 8 weeks @ $400/week
